My Condolences

The rampage was almost two weeks ago, but it has still made us tremble. At Virginia Technology University, one student shot about 225 bullets and killed 33 people including him. I feel sorrowful that it happened, and coincidentally, the guy was from Asia.
I have many friends who are from South Korea. Most of them are really working hard. Even though they are older that I, even though they have small children, they always study hard to be professionals, or follow their dreams. I am sure they will be successful because of their persistence. Is their perseverance a South Korean nature? I have always been impressed.
However, because just one mad kid made such a terrible mistake, many South Korean people feel great shame. It is interesting to me that many media called him "a kid" even though he was 23 years old. Because he was a student? Because his action was too self-conscious? I think both of them could be reasons.
All countries have such WEIRD or STRANGE people. This criminal is Korean because is just... a coincidence or damon's work!
However, the fact is that" he is an immigrant" makes the incident complicated.
I learned two things from this rampage.
One, I realized the U.S's diversity again. I hope this incident doesn't cause any discrimination against South Korean or Asian. So far, I don't feel it in my town. But there always are people who want to make other people "biased," so we should be careful.
Two, the cultural gap about the thinking of "safety" between Japan and America.
Here, in the United States, they can get GUNS easily. (we, temporally residents can't.) It is harde to get hunter guns because of preventing extinction of some animals. However...HE got a gun from a store, and the other one on line just because he is a U.S. citizen!! Here, "to protect themselves" is one of the important HUMAN RIGHTS.
I don't know how to say for the victims' families... It is such an unbeliebable rampage... I just say my deep condolences to them, and pray not to have this kind of terrible incident, anymore.

Some people say that he suffered from isolation and depression when alive because of his nationality.Others mention that This incident should be looked at as a
massive killing by a very disturbed individual, not an ethnic group.

This tragedy reminds me of Columbine high school massaccre. The student was bullied and felt isolation, and he was showing sings everywhere. Nevertheless the school didn’t have a proper system to help him in need.

Two cases seem so similar. Didn't we learn anything from Columbine? If so, why did Virginia Tech shooting happen?

This tragedy seems involve in ethnicity, gun ownership and Human right complicatedly.

The solution to these rampages is not banning a gun. Banning a gun will reduce the number of killing, but it won’t solve the core problem at all.

Yuko chan, thank you for your comment!
In my opinion, I don't think HE did this shooting because he felt isolated as a FOREIGNER.
I am also an Asian in the U.S.
We are appearently different from Caucasian-Americans. But Japanese-American tie each other more than we were in Japan, I believe as well as Korean. HE is from an area where many Korean live. Their family seemed have socialized well with their neighbors.
As far as I have listened news about this rampage, I am surprised almost nobody said, "He was not a bad person." He was a really weird, disturbing guy. I think some people are born like devils unfortunately... Probably, he was one of them.
As you said, banning guns doesn't solve the CORE of this problem. It may be about human's horrible nature.
However, I support Virginia state's upcoming decision.
They enacted the law of banning people who have been treated mental illness from buying guns.
Hopefully, this will be a great step to solve the deep American problem.
